Continuing on the Essential Australia series we head back to the east coast and the province of New South Wales. To the north, approximately nine hours from Sydney lies one of Australia’s best known coastal towns, Byron Bay. … More Essential Australia – Byron Bay
Continuing on the Essential Australia series, we turn our focus back to the Northern Territory. One of the more overlooked parts of Australia, surprisingly it houses some of the most incredible locations. We have already looked at it’s most famous iconic location Uluru, but the Kakadu National Park is a location just as (if not more) spectacular. … More Essential Australia – Kakadu
Continuing on our essential Australia series we now look at one of Western Australia’s lesser known gems. We knew nothing about the Kalbarri before planning our journey north from Perth. What we found was a wondrous quaint coastal town and a huge National Park full of splendor. … More Essential Australia – Kalbarri
Continuing from last years Essential Australia series, we now move onto what is to me the highlight of the state of Victoria, the Great Ocean Road.
Appropriately named the Great Ocean Road is probably Australia’s most iconic road, stretching 243 km along the south-east coast between Torquay (just below Melbourne) and Allansford … More Essential Australia – The Great Ocean Road
To our dismay, when we lived in Australia for 12 months we never got to experience Cape Range National Park. The reason for this was that it is situated halfway between Perth and Broome on the Western Coast of Australia (1,000 km from either). It is literally in the middle of nowhere!
We rectified this recently on a campervan tour on the Western Coast, and it was the best decision ever! Cape Range fights it out with Broome as our most essential place to visit in all of Australia… So why the high praise? … More Essential Australia – Cape Range
We have been fielding questions recently about the Oz Experience bus tours that operate in Australia. As detailed in our recent tour company blog post, I used this service twice when I was a little younger, one to travel from Sydney to Cairns and the other from Sydney to Darwin via Melbourne. All tour companies have their positives and negatives, and this company has had a lot of press for being a party bus or aka ‘f**k bus’ (not my words). … More Oz Experience Bus – Revealed
Continuing the Australian Essentials segment, no list would be complete without Fraser Island. In all honesty it is probably our favorite essential experience of Australia’s eastern coast.
Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world, with an eclectic mix of beautiful beach, crystal clear freshwater lakes, dense forest and stunning rock vistas. Located just off the town of Hervey Bay, in between Brisbane and Rockhampton, the island is renowned as an experience not to be missed … More Essential Australia – Fraser Island
The center of Australia is mainly overlooked when contemplating a short trip to Australia and for good reason. It’s vast, it’s barren, it’s void of civilisation and it’s home to some of the countries most extreme temperatures.
However within this vast wilderness there is an extremely popular draw, the iconic rock of Uluru (better known as Ayres Rock). You’d be surprised that it is over 200 miles from the nearest largest town which is Alice Springs, and nearly a three hour flight from Sydney. … More Essential Australia – Uluru
Following on from our essential australia series we wanted to concentrate on some of A Wandering Memory favourites. This one would be about Broome. I am not sure what possessed me to travel to Broome whilst living in Australia – it’s so far removed from the majority of tourist locations within the country. Whilst in … More Essential Australia – Broome
Continuing on from our Australia Essentials we now look at the Northern Territory and Western Australia. If you missed the first part of this blog referring to Queensland, New South Wales and Southern Australia please click here … More Essential Australia – Part Two
